Elizabeth Wanted To “See Some Stars”. She Saw Hundreds Of Billions!

At Honeysuckles Astronomy Tours, we have all types of guests. We have folks interested and knowledgeable about astronomy, scientists from other fields who know very little in particular about astronomy, retirees etc. etc. But most of all, we have people of all ages who just want to see a dark sky (that is hard to see these days because of runaway light pollution) and see up close – in detail, what the REAL universe looks like. So when we occasionally ask a guest “what do you expect to see?” and the answer comes back in “hopeful tones” “stars”, we are delighted. “Stars” and much more, is what you’ll get!

Fiona booked the group’s stay with Andrew, Patrick, Meredith and youngest, Elizabeth. Viewing experience was very limited, but that was soon about to change. Another superb but cold and still night gave way to superb sights to broaden ones horizon and sense of the big picture world we live in. From a single glorious star with strong colours, to amazing clusters who’s origins date back twelve billion and more years, the story goes on. Planet Earth and all that goes on here is miraculous, but it is only the minutest part imaginable of the grand scheme of things. Sobering, fascinating, reassuring and downright great to be alive to be able to see such things are all feelings a close look into space can provide you. Somewhat different to an hour spent on “social media” 🙂
