Christmas Present Unwrapped And Delivered For Michael

March Is A Great Time To Open Your Astronomy Tour Christmas Present

High cloud at the start of our tour meant a little waiting  (…. while enjoying a glass of red, of course) before getting into some fabulous viewing of deep space and “not-so-deep-space” objects in our galactic environs.

Kate’s gift to Michael was an overnight stay tour with Honeysuckles Astronomy Tours, which includes for those seeking a challenge, a 90 mile walk along our adjacent beach, if guests feel so inclined! 🙂 When the sky cleared, the couple who have a great fondness for space and “space stories”, were quickly captured by the magic of millions of stars in one cluster, or a view of an entire “island universe” – a galaxy, in the one field of view. One is soon very clear on how tiny we are in the universe and how our daily world preoccupations, would not rate all that newsworthy out there in space.

Back on Earth, Kate and Michael’s tour opened with excellent views of Jupiter, with the Great Red Spot clearly visible and a shadow transit taking place while we were viewing. (a shadow transit occurs when one of Jupiter’s main 4 Galilean moons passes in front of the planet and its resultant shadow caused by the Sun can be seen crossing over the planet … an eclipse, in other words). In addition to Jupiter’s array of colourful bands across the planet, witnessing these two events was a bonus. It was an exciting night’s viewing providing some wonderful memories of unforgettable mysteries up there in space.
